The 2002 performance of John CageŐs work at sound. at the Schindler House marked the coincidence of several anniversaries: the 50th anniversary of the seminal work 4' 33" performed in 1952, the 90th anniversary of Cage's birth, and the 10th anniversary of his death. Cage was a resident of the Schindler House for a brief period in 1934.
When introducing their homage to John ColtraneŐs Interstellar Space, Nels Cline and Gregg Bendian speak of how inspired they continue to be by the posthumous1974 release which featured Coltrane on tenor saxophone and the drumming of Rashied Ali. Interstellar Space Revisited was performed as part of the 2002 World Festival of Sacred Music.
