NOISY NIGHT

Noisy Night features eight players from heavy metal and harsh noise, two idioms with rich and similarly subversive histories. Improvisational ensembles will be created using random methods, drawing upon musicians who have not previously performed together but who share an interest in working at the fringes of sonic practice. With Bob Bellerue (Redglaer), Bobb Bruno (Goliath Bird Eater), David Kendall (The Kentucky Knobs), Troy Oftedal (Cattle Decapitation), Jessica Rylan (Can't), Gabe Serbian (The Locust), David Scott Stone (Melvins) and Shannon Walter (16 Bitch Pile-up).

Bob Bellerue (aka half normal) is a noise artist, theater designer, audio engineer, writer, and founder of the sub-avant performance space the Il Corral. Bellerue's work utilizes custom electronics and programming, incorporating feedback, prepared field recordings, de-musicalized instruments, and found oscillators. Bob Bruno is a multi-instrumentalist and performer appearing in groups such as The For Carnation, instrumentalists Polar Goldie Cats, the Uphill Gardeners and Goliath Bird Eater. Past collaborators include Nels Cline, Carla Bozulich, Upsilon Acrux, Jen Wood, and Devin Sarno.

David Kendall's practice explores the essential, monadic aspects of music-making materials. Improvisation, amplification, distortion, and resonance form the basis for much of his music. Collaborators include Sandor Finta, Doug Russell, Andre Vida, Bryan Eubanks, David Rothbaum, Jonathan Zorn, Akihiro Shimizu and many others. Kendall has albums released, or in production, on the EMR, P-Tapes, Bastardised, Alienation, Helicopter, and Anarchymoon labels.

She has created sound installations at the List Visual Arts Center at MIT, the Boston Center for the Arts, Harvard University, and the Berwick Research Institute. Rylan has received grants from the Penny McCall Foundation and the LEF Foundation. She is currently a research affiliate at MIT's Center for Advanced Visual Studies.
