JACKIE STEWART
LETICIA CASTANEDA

Two innovative composers interact with the unique acoustics of the historic Schindler House: Jackie Stewart aka Oblivia, founding member of the Portland based free noise collective Smegma, makes a rare solo appearance and Leticia Castaneda, whose works "revel in a thrift store brutism that engages the aesthetic of musique concrete with a lo-fi sensibility."

Presented in association with WACK! Art and the Feminist Revolution at MOCA.

NOISY NIGHT

Noisy Night features eight players from heavy metal and harsh noise, two idioms with rich and similarly subversive histories. Improvisational ensembles will be created using random methods, drawing upon musicians who have not previously performed together but who share an interest in working at the fringes of sonic practice. Bob Bellerue (Redglaer), Bobb Bruno (Goliath Bird Eater), David Kendall (The Kentucky Knobs), Troy Oftedal (Cattle Decapitation), Jessica Rylan (Can't), Gabe Serbian (The Locust), David Scott Stone (Melvins), and Shannon Walter (16 Bitch Pile-up).

DAVID WATSON
JESSICA CATRON

Critics describe David Watson's work on highland bagpipes as "the first major furtherance of Yoshi Wada's concept of psychedelic bagpipe minimalism" and as "what Albert Ayler's never-recorded bagpipe side might've sounded like, had he been more influenced by psychotropics than Mary Maria." Originally from New Zealand, and a long time player in New York's avant scene, this is Watson's first Los Angeles appearance. Los Angeles based cellist Jessica Catron occupies many musical microcosms. Whether it is performing the works of James Tenney or the 250+ miniatures written for the Microscore Project with violinist Johnny Chang, Catron uses her instrument to reveal the sublimity of the small. In this rare peformance of her solo work, Catron uses microtonality and microsounds to audibly magnify nuances otherwise lost in the sonic macrocosm.

IKUE MORI and ZEENA PARKINS
FRED FRITH

Ikue Mori (electronics), Zeena Parkins (electric harp), and legendary guitarist Fred Frith are international icons of modern improvisation. "Phantom Orchard," Parkins and Mori's duo CD of 2004, was hailed by critics as "beautiful and dangerous" and "a joy to experience." Their appearance with Frith is the first time these frequent collaborators will perform together in Los Angeles.
